How to Install an Industrial Waterproof RJ45 Connector

Learn how to properly assemble and install the LP-16 waterproof RJ45 connector in just a few simple steps. Designed for industrial Ethernet applications, this IP67-rated connector ensures reliable network connectivity in harsh environments — from factory floors to outdoor installations. Step 1

Prepare the Cable

Thread the Ethernet cable (Cat5e/Cat6) through the connector’s back shell, compression nut, and rubber sealing gland in the correct order before termination.

Step 2

Strip & Arrange Conductors
Strip approximately 25mm of the cable jacket. Untwist and arrange all 8 conductors according to the T568B wiring standard (or T568A based on your network setup).

Step 3

Trim & Insert into RJ45 Plug
Trim the conductor tips evenly, then carefully insert them into the shielded RJ45 plug. Ensure all wires reach the front of the plug and the cable jacket sits past the crimp area.

Step 4

Crimp the Plug
Use a professional RJ45 crimp tool to crimp the plug firmly. Verify the crimp is secure — the locking mechanism on the tool should release once proper pressure is applied.

Step 5

Assemble the Connector Body

Insert the terminated RJ45 plug into the connector housing. Align the plug with the orientation mark (pin side up). Push it fully into place until it seats firmly against the internal gasket.

Step 6

Tighten the Compression Nut
Hand-tighten the rear compression nut to secure the cable in position. Then use a 19mm wrench to finish tightening. This compresses the rubber cable gland to form a watertight seal.

Step 7

Lock the Cable Gland
Twist the cable gland at the rear to lock it into its final position. This prevents the cable from rotating or pulling loose under tension.

Step 8

Connect to the Panel Socket

Align the waterproof plug with the panel-mounted socket. Push in and twist (or thread, depending on the model) until you feel it lock into place. The IP67 seal is now active.
